Experience
I am the first to admit that I give xp kind of haphazardly. So don't expect there to be a predominant pattern here, and please don't try to count EVERY session and go "I should have THAT much!" 'Cause it just won't work. :O
I will say that I average giving 3 xp a session, though. 2 xp for minis. 4 xp for scenes where I thought the character really shone. (As of April 13, 2008, this has been slightly increased.) The first chapter is an exception: I gave a flat rate of xp for everyone.
But even with those guidelines, there can be discrepancies -- for example, there are cases of minis that took days to play in very small chunks, so even though they were made of several sessions I only gave a single reward for the whole thing. No matter what the scene, though, there's always at least a little reward just because the players came, sat their butts down and RPed with me for a few hours. ^^;
On Training Times
Yes, they're a headache. No, I won't waive them entirely. Here is what you *can* do. (The costs are as listed in
Exalted, p. 271.)
- You can always spend up to half your total experience without training times, except when buying the following:
- Permanent Essence
- Any Attribute or Ability above 3 dots that is NOT Aspect/Favored
- New Abilities or Specialties
- "New Specialties" refers to a specialty you haven't put any points into yet. So if you already have Performance (Dance +1), raising to +2 can be done with the half-total-experience rule. But if you want that initial +1, you need to use training time or stunt-learn.
- If you must (or have already) spent beyond half your total experience, you'll have to make sure you have enough training time left to buy the rest of what you want.
- One training day is a day in game in which your PC has at least 4 hours of time they can devote to the training. In practice this basically means any day they're not completely passed out from injury or constantly exerting themselves. I'm going to trust people's judgment on this, so... you know, be reasonable!
- One training week, or month, I'll allow to be more vague, since time goes relatively slowly. It's just a week of game time, or a month of game time.
- You can stunt-learn to speed things up, since training time is rather scarce in this game. I won't allow HUGE gains for a single stunt, but say, a dot, maybe two in a non-favored ability (even if previously unskilled) would be good. Or a single Charm or Combo. Or a specialty. If you're unsure what you can stunt-learn, just ask.
Current Time
The current game time is the
25th of Descending Fire, RY 768.

...
1 day game time for Iesan.
Other Restrictions
- At this time I am disallowing Essence raises above 4.
